Ok, so three weeks (I think that count is accurate) without a post. To borrow the words of one of my favorite 40k characters "I recognize my failings and will seek to correct them." Had a work trip to San Deigo, a nice break from Minnesota, but in general I hate work travel. I know some folks who can manage painting while on work trips, but I've never been able to get that down. Then we had a GT here in Minneapolis, the Dark Star GT. I'll do a full write up of battles, but long story short, went 4-1 losing last round to the guy who took best general, finished 9th overall, my paint score dragging me down a little bit. All in all a good time. My list was:
Wolf Lord on a Thunderwolf w/ TH/SS, Runic Armor, Saga of the Bear
Rune Priest w/ Jaws & Living Lighting, Chooser of the Slain
Wolf Priest
Grey Hunters 7x (1x Meltagun, 1x Wolf Standard) + Wolf Guard w/ Fist, Combimelta; Rhino
Grey Hunters 7x (1x Meltagun, 1x Wolf Standard) + Wolf Guard w/ Fist, Combimelta; Rhino
Grey Hunters 7x (1x Meltagun, 1x Wolf Standard) + Wolf Guard w/ Fist, Combimelta; Rhino
Thunderwolf Cav 5x (2x w/ SS, 1x w/ SS/PFist)
Long Fangs 6x (5x Missile Launchers)
Long Fangs 6x (5x Missile Launchers)
Long Fangs 6x (5x Missile Launchers)
It's basically what I've been running for tournies since Adepticon last year, it works well, gets the job done. It's SUPER light on scoring units, as the grey hunter squads get to wade into CC with the Thunderwolves. Had a few interesting games, I'll write up a post tomorrow going over them in detail, for now I'll leave with a pic from round 1 vs Dark Eldar.

Why Warptime, WHY.....
On time again this week, with a bit of luck in the future I'll just stop making comment on being on time with posts. Played a few friendly games with my club yesterday and learned two things really quickly.
First, Jaws savages Necron HQs. I played a guy who was running a list focusing on a giant deathstar of 10x lychguard, a pair of crypteks, and 3x HQs (Zand, Obereon (sp?), and Taz). A single Jaws killed all three HQs. One power, one set of rolls, like 600 points removed from the board. A thunder wolf charge backed up by two grey hunter squads sealed the deal.
Second, DEAR GOD GW NERFED WARPTIME. Sorry for the caps, but I'm actually super upset by this. No one (I strongly assume) was asking for it, there was no confusion with it, so why did that need to be done? The second game I played my Thousand Sons for grins and amusement, and the CC heart of that list was Ahriman and a Mark of Tzeentch Sorcerer running around with Warptime. This one change, how many years after the Chaos Marine 'dex just utterly screws the build I like to play. It's not a huge deal, I had to blow a layer of dust off the minis when I was putting them into the foam to transport them to the store, but still....
No list to post this week, as I've not been having deep thoughts time with my codexes, but I do have promised pictures. These are of a Long Fang pack that I just finally got around to finishing about a week ago. I've been running them for the better part of a year "three colored", and by that I mean basecoat, white on the shoulder pads, and silver of the chainswords and launchers. Glad to finally have them done. I may be far from what I consider a "good" painter, but there is something nice about a fully painted army.
Sitting on the painting table now are some almost done Dreadfleet islands and a Wolf Scout pack, we'll see if I can pick up the pace on painting progress a bit.

Two Days Late (but not two dollars short?)
Ok a little late, but I had a super relaxing and enjoyable weekend, so I guess I can sorta let it slide. Took a week off from tournaments and just hung out at home. Got a bit of painting done and a bit of real world building (working on remodeling my bathroom) done. The long fangs are off my painting table, I'll take pics at some point. I do have a picture as promised though, of my stuff, just not taken by me. Credits go to Bigred from Bell of Lost Souls for the picture, he took it of my Thunder Wolves at Adepticon.
That was from first round of the invite only at Adepticon this past year. Played a really cool Ork player and had an enjoyable game, even if it did start at 6AM. I have this strong love/hate relationship with my Thunder Wolves. I love the models, I love using them, I hate them when they bounce off a unit. For a while I was thinking about shelving them, but in the end I grew a pair and just adjusted my tactics. For example, mass force weapons harm them (e.g. grey knights), so I quickly learned to make sure they never drift outside the rune priest 24" bubble vs GKs.
Sitting on my painting table right now is a fair bit of Dreadfleet stuff. I really like the game, it is basically Battlefleet Gothic with better rules. Better yet the wife likes to play it, so I can basically get in a game whenever I want. As for wolves, I'm debating between wolf scouts getting painted next and a display board getting done. I'm going to be upset if at the next GT I lose because I don't have a display board, seems like a good thing to spend a weekend on. When I post Sunday I'll let you know which I went with.

Praise the Emperor, is this two weeks in a row?
Holy cow, is this me actually making two posts in a row, crazy talk. Good weekend for 40k in Minneapolis. We had a prep tourney for a GT we're having in Minneapolis (the GT is the Dark Star GT). I came in second overall (and I think 2nd in battle points as well). My friend came in first in battle points with his Orks (but he isn't fully painted, more the pitty). A filthy Canadian, and by filthy I mean apparently a very nice guy with very nicely painted Deathwing who knew how to drive them came in first overall. He had 5 less battle points them me, but 9 more paint score. I really need to complete the basing on my wolves and make a display tray, you know, it is only like I've been playing them for the past year plus, no big deal....
First round I had one of my friends who plays Tau. I squeaked out a minor victory. He knew where to hit my list, and has a fairly optimized list. A good close game as we know each other and how to counter each other.
Second round I had a guy I know who plays Nids. I stomped him fairly soundly. Nids at 1850 vs wolves just isn't fair. I Jaws off his Tevrigons, eat his Trygons with Long Fangs, and there is nothing left to stop my TWolves from walking over everything else.
Third round I had a good local GK player (who also happens to work for Fantasy Flight, and is one of the prime authors of Dark Hersey/Deathwatch RPGs). It was a good, close, nail biting game. In the end with a little assistance from Stormshields and a Rune Priest my TWolves ate everything that came near me and I worked a major victory (we drew primary and I took secondary and tertiary).
Super nice tourney all the way around. Got to hang out with my friends, didn't get $50 in prize support but meh. Had a blast so who cares. I'll actually get some pics up in the future.
My list was my fairly standard tourney wolves list:

So about that back from the dead bit....
Yeah, attempt at actually getting this blog running and functional take 2, wait....3? Might be 4. I'm going to take a page out of Goatboy's book here and try and do one post a week on the same day, Sunday in my case. I'm going to try and do this for a full year, if I pull that off I might have to get myself a reward....
My current main 40k army is actually Space Wolves. I'll get picks up next week with a little bit of luck. I've been doing really well with them, I went 4-0 on the first day of Adepticon last year, got into the invite only on Sunday, got beaten out by the guy who ended up winning it. They do well in my local scene as well, my build has a little bit of an issue with DE, but meh, what can you do?
I'm going to try and post a list I've been playing last week, or if there is a tourney what I played and how I did. There was a small 1850 tournament yesterday that I came in first at. It was 7 players counting myself (like I said small). Since it was small, and mostly new players I didn't take my super optimized list, felt like breaking out the dual Land Raiders, here is the list:
Ragnar
Wolf Guard:
1x w/ CMelta, Fist
3x w/ TArmor, 2x Wolf Claws
2x w/ TArmor, PWeapon, SShield
1x w/ TArmor, PFist, SShield
1x w/ TArmor, THammer, SShield
LRC w/ MMelta, EA
Grey Hunters 5x (Flamer) w/ TL-Las Razor
Grey Hunters 5x (Flamer) w/ TL-Las Razor
Grey Hunters 9x (Melta, Standard)
Long Fangs 5x (4x Missile Launchers)
Long Fangs 5x (4x Missile Launchers)
Land Raider w/ EA
First round was kill points, kill most expensive HQ, kill most expensive unit. I had a codex marine player (Sicarius, single land raider, some tac squads). Immobilized his LR on the charge, he got out Sicarius by himself as I had blocked the hatches of his LR. Sicarius eats a las cannon, LR goes down to the melta. I jump my termies and ragnar back in their LRC and drive around for 2 turns, fairly easy game.
Second round was vs DE (lots of wytches in raiders). A friend of mine was playing the list, sadly for him I got to deploy away from his Ravagers with the land raiders, the game ended with a ton of AT ending his boats quickly and a giant assault with Ragnar, WGuard termies, and Grey Hunters. Tabled him on 6.
Third round was vs Tau. It was a comedy of errors for me. Marker lights + Fusion on fast skimmers ate my LRC. The other raider decided that immobilizing itself behind terrain was a good idea. The termies and large grey hunter squad got to slog through fire warrior fire, not fun. Wolf guard and Ragnar ended up dying to fire, but the grey hunter squad was saved by a drone squad passing an LD check, followed by a 6" consolidate out of combat at the end of his turn. The game ended in a draw and I felt fairly luck to get that given my play mistakes and the odd matchup of marker light supported fusion and rails vs land raiders.

Yar back from the dead!
Ok, long time with next to no painting, but slowly this starts to change. My wife and I have bought a house, and thankfully I get a dedicated 40k area now. I've started working on a little bit of terrain, I'll post pics of them at some point, real quick here is what has been on my project table as of late. It's a fully done escort squad.

Getting to know the armies: Thousand Sons
aaaaaand now that the semester is over I'll get around to another get to know the armies post. This time we've got my Thousand Sons army. This army was started as part of an Adepticon team more two years ago. It's a smaller force, only about 1500 pts or so. Sorry for the camera work, I'm still figuring out how to take pictures of minis.
Going to actually use a break since it's a lot of pictures.
